velocity

description of an object's motion that includes both its speed AND its direction of travel.

velocity dispersion

the spread of the distribution of the velocities.

vernal equinox

specific moment in the year (on March 21) when the Sun is directly on the celestial equator, moving north of the celestial equator.

volcanism

any eruption of molten lava onto the surface.
